How to Use Laxmi Potli for Lakshmi Puja

Place your Laxmi Potli on a separate dry thali near the Lakshmi Ganesh altar. Open it when your puja requires an item inside. Take out the selected material before its offering begins. You can also worship with the pouch closed when that matches your family practice.

The Satvikly Laxmi Potli contains 21 types of puja samagri and a red pouch. You need other materials to perform the full Lakshmi Puja. The instructions below focus on using the pouch during worship, from preparation through Aarti.

How to Use Laxmi Potli During Puja: 6 Steps

Begin with your chosen Lakshmi Puja Vidhi (पूजा विधि). These steps show when to prepare, offer and store selected materials. Other prayers and offerings remain part of the full ceremony.

Step 1. Arrange the Altar and Puja Materials (पूजा की तैयारी)

Cover a clean chowki with a suitable puja cloth. Place the main Lakshmi Ganesh murti or framed picture on it. Before worship, compare the received materials against the 21-item contents list. Put the red potli on another dry thali within reach. The small Lakshmi Ganesh symbol differs from the main worship image.

Before starting, arrange these items separately:

  • For the altar: A Lakshmi Ganesh murti or image, flowers and clean water.
  • For Aarti: A diya, wick, oil or ghee, and a safe lighting source.
  • For offerings: Fresh fruit, edible Prasad and any extra items named in your Vidhi.
  • For the potli: Two bowls for untouched dry materials and used offerings.
  • For Tambula, if included: Fresh Paan leaves and Kapoor, purchased separately.

Place the diya on a stable, heat-safe surface. Leave enough space between its flame and the pouch, Mauli, Bhojpatra and paper. Keep water and wet flowers away from the unopened dry packets.

हिन्दी: पोटली को सूखी थाली में रखें। दीपक और गीली सामग्री अलग रखें।

Step 2. Open the Potli Only for the Required Offerings (पोटली कब खोलें)

Decide which materials your puja will use before the prayers begin. Opening every packet creates extra handling without helping the ceremony.

  • Using the closed potli: Place it beside the altar on a clean, dry thali.
  • Offering Akshat or Supari: Open the pouch and take out those materials separately.
  • Using only a few ingredients: Remove the required portions and leave the rest untouched.

If your ceremony calls for Akshat and one Supari, prepare both beforehand. Put the rice in a dry bowl and reserve the Supari for Ganesh worship. Leave the other materials in their packets.

There is no universal requirement to offer all 21 materials separately. The number describes material types; it prescribes no compulsory offering count.

हिन्दी: पूजा में जितनी सामग्री चाहिए, उतनी ही निकालें। बाकी पोटली में रहने दें।

Step 3. Prepare Supari and Mauli for Ganesh Puja, If Used

One Ganesh Puja method uses a whole Supari as a representation of Lord Ganesh. The method washes the Supari, wraps Mauli, then places it on a suitable base.

When following that method:

  1. Select one whole Supari (साबुत सुपारी) from the pouch.
  2. Wash the Supari gently with a little clean water.
  3. Wrap a suitable length of Mauli (मौली) around it.
  4. Place the wrapped Supari on a clean ceramic or metal puja base.
  5. Continue the Ganesh invocation and offerings from the chosen Vidhi.

Your potli has five Suparis and one metre of Mauli. If Lakshmi Vastram also needs Mauli, divide the thread beforehand.

Arrange extra Mauli if the chosen method requires more. Families worshipping an existing Ganesh murti can use their established ceremony. A separate Supari representation belongs only to methods that call for one. Place the washed Supari away from the untouched dry materials afterwards.

Step 4. Offer Mauli at Vastram and Akshat at the Rice-Offering Stage

The Lakshmi Puja Vidhi includes Mauli during Vastram (वस्त्रम्), the clothing offering. A later stage calls for Akshat (अक्षत), or unbroken rice. Other puja offerings take place between these two stages.

If following that Vidhi, use the relevant potli materials at their respective moments:

  • At Vastram: Offer the required Mauli thread as part of the clothing offering.
  • At Akshat: Take the required unbroken rice and offer it before Maa Lakshmi.

The pouch contains 10 g of Akshat. Your chosen ceremony determines the number of grains offered. Prepare the portion your ceremony needs and leave untouched rice in its clean packet.

Keep rice mixed with flowers, water or food apart from untouched grains. Continue the remaining Lakshmi Puja offerings in their proper order.

हिन्दी: वस्त्रम् पर मौली और अक्षत चरण पर साबुत चावल अर्पित करें।

Step 5. Use Peeli Kaudi and Tambula When Your Ceremony Includes Them

Drik Panchang describes yellow Kaudi (पीली कौड़ी) as a traditional Lakshmi offering. If your family includes Kaudi, reserve the required pieces before puja. Five Peeli Kaudis come in the pouch, but that quantity is a product count.

Tambula (ताम्बूल) is another offering in a detailed Lakshmi Puja method. It follows Naivedya (नैवेद्य), the food offering, and a water offering called Achamana (आचमन).

For that documented Tambula method, arrange:

  • Paan leaves (पान के पत्ते) and Kapoor (कपूर) separately.
  • One unused Supari and whole green Elaichi (हरी इलायची) from the potli.

A Supari washed during Ganesh Puja belongs to that earlier ritual. Take another unused piece if Tambula requires one. Prepare and offer Tambula following the chosen procedure.

The potli also contains devotional symbols, including Lakshmi Charan and Swastik. Arrange them near the main puja area if your household uses them. An included Mahalakshmi Yantra may require its own distinct worship procedure.

Step 6. Finish Aarti Without Mixing Used and Unused Items

Complete the remaining prayers and offerings from your puja method. Perform Aarti with the cloth pouch away from the flame. Offer edible Prasad prepared using separate food-grade ingredients.

Allow the diya plate to cool before moving nearby materials. Leave wet offerings in a separate, suitable dish.

What Should You Do With the Other Potli Materials?

Your ceremony may use only a few materials from the pouch. Remaining seeds, spices, shells and devotional symbols can remain apart from offerings. Their presence creates no requirement to use every ingredient in one ceremony.

Material group During puja
Gomti Chakra, Safed Kaudi and Kamal Gatta Include them when your family practice calls for these devotional materials.
Haldi Ganth Use the whole piece when the puja method asks for Haldi Ganth.
Dhaniya, Peeli Sarson and Kali Sarson Leave them dry unless your ceremony includes these grains or seeds.
Laung, Dalchini, Tejpatta and Nagkesar Reserve these individual materials for a puja that specifies their use.
Bhojpatra Write on the piece only when a worship method calls for sacred writing.
Yantra, Lakshmi Charan and Swastik Arrange the symbols with the altar when their design and your custom permit.

Avoid burning the complete potli or its mixed contents. A Havan calls for its own approved samagri and procedure. Shells, fabric and printed devotional symbols belong outside the fire.

Five Kamal Gatta seeds also differ from a complete prayer mala. The standard potli excludes a separate mantra-chanting service. Dedicated Yantra worship follows the ceremony appropriate for its design.

After Lakshmi Puja: What Goes Back Into the Potli?

Handle unused material separately from offerings that touched water or food. That distinction protects the remaining dry items and their packaging. Finish sorting after the diya and nearby surfaces cool.

  • Unused, dry items: Store rice, spices and seeds in clean, dry containers or sealed packets.
  • Used or damp offerings: Set these aside for appropriate handling under your family practice.
  • Devotional symbols and Bhojpatra: Protect them from moisture, creases and crushing.
  • Spoiled material: Discard seeds or spices showing mould, insects or damp damage.

Even dry rice already offered belongs with used materials.

Store the red pouch on a dry mandir shelf or another suitable protected place. Avoid returning wet flowers, washed Supari or food residue to dry packets. Store small shells and seeds away from children and pets.

Follow local arrangements for disposing of used offerings. Separate plastic and metal objects from flowers and other organic materials.

Using the Potli for Dhanteras or Bahi Khata Puja

The same unopened or partly used potli may suit another family ceremony. Check the remaining dry material before using it again. Dhanteras worship and Diwali Lakshmi Puja can have different offerings.

For Dhanteras, include the pouch in Lakshmi-Kuber worship if your family follows that practice. Select individual materials only where the chosen ceremony calls for them.

For Bahi Khata Puja (बही खाता पूजा), place account books near the worship area. The closed pouch can rest on a separate dry thali beside the books. Businesses using electronic accounts may prepare a printed account summary. Place phones, laptops and ledgers away from diyas, liquids and oil.

Questions About Using Laxmi Potli

Before starting, confirm your puja timing and the condition of received items. Questions about the Yantra or missing pieces need answers before worship.

Can I Perform Lakshmi Puja at Home Without a Pandit?

Choose a complete home Lakshmi Puja Vidhi for the ceremony. These instructions cover the pouch and its selected offerings.

Does Opening the Potli Require a Separate Muhurat?

The product description specifies no separate muhurat for opening the pouch. Follow the city-specific Lakshmi Puja timing for your ceremony.

What If an Ingredient Arrives Missing or Damaged?

Compare your received materials against the ordered 21-item contents list. Record an unboxing video and retain the original packaging. Contact Satvikly support promptly with your order details.

The current return policy requests shipping-damage reports within 12 hours. Wrong-product reports require an unboxing video within 24 hours. A ritual substitute does not resolve a missing product item.

Are the Included Yantra and Symbols Already Consecrated?

The standard potli price excludes a separate mantra-chanting service. For dedicated Yantra worship, confirm its design and consult your pandit.
