2026 Puja Dates with Purnima Start and End Times

Dates below follow the Delhi Satyanarayan calendar. Every start and end time uses IST. The last column helps you plan within Purnima, but it does not replace a city-based Muhurat.

Purnima may also be written as Poornima or Pournami. Some calendars use Satyanarayana instead of Satyanarayan. Satyanarayan Katha dates use the same Tithi check as Puja dates. Reference location: Delhi, India

Why 2026 Has 13 Satyanarayan Puja Dates

Hindu lunar years commonly contain 12 months. An extra lunar month, called Adhika Maas (अधिक मास), falls in 2026. It adds one more Purnima and creates 13 listed Satyanarayan Vrat dates.

May therefore has 2 dates. The 1 May date is Vaishakha Purnima. The 30 May date is Adhika Jyeshtha Purnima, not a repeated entry. Regular Jyeshtha Purnima follows on 29 June.

Why Satyanarayan Puja Dates Differ Across Calendars

Calendars may use different rules for Puja, Vrat, sunrise or the exact full-moon time. Read the label before comparing 2 dates.

Purnima Tithi

Complete start and end window of the lunar date.

Satyanarayan Vrat date

Date chosen for the Vrat (व्रत) and Puja.

Evening Puja date

Date when Purnima remains active during evening worship.

Festival Purnima date

Date chosen for Snan (स्नान), Daan (दान) or another practice.

Exact full-moon time

One exact time when the Moon becomes full.

Purnima can cross 2 English calendar dates. For example, Chaitra Purnima starts on 1 April and ends on 2 April. The Delhi Satyanarayan calendar lists 1 April, while another calendar may show 2 April.

Similar differences appear around 30 and 31 May, 27 and 28 August, and 25 and 26 October. Some pages also show 30 June or 24 December. Those dates do not match the dedicated Delhi Satyanarayan list used here.

An exact full-moon time is also different from Purnima Tithi. NASA Moon Guide lists the full-moon moment, not the Hindu Vrat date. Puja planning needs the full Tithi window and its calendar rule.

A Hindu Panchang day begins at sunrise, not midnight. Date selection may also consider when Purnima begins and whether worship occurs during evening. These rules explain why a Satyanarayan date can differ from a general full-moon calendar.

Some Panchangs also check how long Chaturdashi (चतुर्दशी) remains before Purnima starts. An active previous evening therefore does not always become the listed Vrat date.

Delhi timings can help families in Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad plan. Check the exact city when Purnima ends near your chosen Puja time. Readers outside India should use a local Panchang instead of converting IST.

Satyanarayan Puja Time: Morning or Evening?

Morning and evening Puja are both followed. Choose a period when Purnima is active and your family Vidhi permits worship.

The Katha (कथा) uses Nishamukha (निशामुख), the start of evening, for worship. Families can hear the Katha together and take Prasad (प्रसाद) after Puja.

One Satyanarayan Puja Muhurat cannot cover all 13 dates in 2026. Purnima ends at a different time each month.

Moonrise alone does not decide Satyanarayan Puja time. It may be used for a family Vrat practice, but it does not replace the Tithi check. Check Rahu Kaal (राहु काल) when your family follows it or Pandit Ji asks. For the home sequence, read Satyanarayan Pooja at Home.

Follow this order before choosing the time

  1. 1 Select your city in the Panchang.
  2. 2 Check when Purnima starts and ends.
  3. 3 Choose morning or evening worship.
  4. 4 Confirm whether Sankalp (संकल्प) must start before Tithi ends.
  5. 5 Ask Pandit Ji to confirm the final time.

Does the 3 March Lunar Eclipse Change the Puja Time?

A total lunar eclipse, called Chandra Grahan (चंद्र ग्रहण), occurs on 3 March 2026. ARIES records the eclipse from 2:14:25 PM to 7:53:06 PM IST. Purnima ends at 5:07 PM, during the total eclipse phase.

Eclipse visibility changes by city because Moonrise times differ. Sutak (सूतक) timing also follows local and family practice. Families following Sutak should ask Pandit Ji whether to use the previous evening or another time.

A partial lunar eclipse occurs globally on 28 August. NASA does not place India inside its main visibility area. The New Delhi eclipse calculation shows no visible eclipse, and the Delhi Puja date is 27 August.

Can Satyanarayan Puja Be Done on Another Day?

Yes. Purnima is the main monthly date, but it is not compulsory. The Sanskrit Shri Satyanarayana Vrat Katha states that worship can be done on another day. It also mentions Purnima and Sankranti (संक्रांति).

Some families choose Thursday, Ekadashi (एकादशी) or a family occasion. Griha Pravesh (गृह प्रवेश), marriage, childbirth and fulfilling a Sankalp are common reasons. Ask Pandit Ji when a non-Purnima date needs a separate Muhurat.

What to Prepare After Confirming the Puja Date

Complete these checks after choosing the date:

  • Confirm the Puja date and time with Pandit Ji.
  • Count family members and guests.
  • Check the Satyanarayan Puja Samagri list.
  • Arrange fresh flowers, fruits, milk, curd and leaves.
  • Keep the Satyanarayan Puja Vidhi and Katha ready.
  • Order the kit before the required delivery date.

Compare the kit contents with the final list from Pandit Ji. Arrange fresh flowers, fruits, leaves, milk and curd locally.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Satyanarayan Puja dates are there in 2026?

The Delhi Satyanarayan calendar lists 13 Puja dates in 2026. Adhika Jyeshtha adds the extra date on 30 May. Every date should be read with its Purnima start and end time.

Why are there 2 Satyanarayan Puja dates in May 2026?

The first date, 1 May, is Vaishakha Purnima. The second date, 30 May, belongs to Adhika Jyeshtha. This added lunar month creates the second May Purnima.

Is 3 March 2026 suitable for Satyanarayan Puja?

The Delhi calendar lists 3 March, but Purnima ends at 5:07 PM. A total lunar eclipse also occurs that afternoon. Confirm the time and Sutak practice with Pandit Ji before planning.

Can Satyanarayan Puja be performed in the morning?

Yes. Morning Puja can be performed while Purnima remains active. Check the exact end time because Purnima ends early on dates such as 3 January and 3 March.

Can the Puja be performed on the previous evening?

Purnima is active on the previous evening for January and March. The Delhi calendar still lists 3 January and 3 March. Ask Pandit Ji which date matches your family practice.

Is the full Purnima Tithi a Satyanarayan Puja Muhurat?

No. Purnima Tithi shows when Purnima starts and ends. The chosen Muhurat may also consider city, sunrise, sunset, family practice and Pandit Ji guidance.

What if Purnima ends during the Puja?

Some families begin Sankalp before Purnima ends. Others keep the complete Puja within the Tithi. Confirm the family rule and expected Puja length before starting.

Do Satyanarayan Puja dates change by city?

Displayed time and the chosen date can change by city or country. Sunrise, sunset, moonrise and eclipse visibility also differ. Use a local Panchang when the Puja falls near a Tithi boundary.

Is Purnima compulsory for Satyanarayan Puja?

No. Purnima is the main monthly date, but the Katha also mentions worship on another day. Families may choose Sankranti, Thursday, Ekadashi or an important family occasion.
