- Stir the samagri before taking the amounts to weigh.
- Put in samagri for 10 ahuti, taking the same amount each time.
- Weight for 1 ahuti = scale reading ÷ 10.
- Multiply that answer × the number of ahuti that need samagri.
If samagri for 10 ahuti weighs 20 g, each ahuti uses 2 g. For 108 ahuti with that amount, you need 216 g. Repeat the weighing if you change the amount for 1 ahuti.
When 2 people take different amounts, weigh both amounts together. A combined 5 g at each of 108 chants totals 540 g.
Samagri With Added Grains or Ghee
Some packets already contain ghee or grains. Read the ingredients on the packet before adding more.
Add only the grains your puja needs. These may include til (तिल, sesame), jau (जौ, barley) or rice.
Adding grains increases the weight of the mix. It does not increase the amount taken from the samagri packet.
For example:
- Samagri from the packet: 150 g.
- Added grains: 150 g.
- Combined weight: 300 g.
Half of this mix comes from the samagri packet. If you need 216 g of this mix, take 108 g from the packet. The other 108 g comes from grains.
For other amounts, calculate the packet samagri like this:
Packet samagri needed = mix needed × packet samagri weight ÷ full mix weight
This calculation assumes the grains and samagri remain evenly mixed. Weigh the packet samagri and added items separately before mixing them.
Weigh dry samagri before adding separately purchased ghee. If the packet already contains ghee, weigh it as sold.
Samagri for Purnahuti and Other Ahuti
Purnahuti is the closing ahuti of the havan. Ask your pandit if it belongs within 108 ahuti or comes after them. Weigh its samagri separately if it needs a different amount.
- Purnahuti within 108: add its samagri to the amount for the other 107 ahuti.
- Purnahuti after 108: add its samagri to the amount for all 108 ahuti.
Add samagri for any other ahuti outside the count. Ghee-only ahuti need no samagri from the packet.
If main ahuti need 216 g and other ahuti need 20 g, arrange 236 g. Write down any separately required purnahuti items alongside the samagri quantity.
Is a 250 g Packet Enough for 108 Ahuti?

Adding 0.5 g more each time adds 54 g across 108 ahuti. A 216 g estimate would then become 270 g. One 250 g packet would be 20 g short.
Ghee Quantity for 108 Ahuti
Plan ghee for the parts of your havan that need it. Include the diya if you fill it from the same ghee container.
- Ghee added at the main ahuti.
- Ghee-only ahuti before the main count.
- Purnahuti and, if required, Vasordhara (वसोर्धारा), the continuous ghee stream at the end.
- Lighting the havan fire and filling the diya (दीया).
