Buy Diwali Puja KitHow Pradosh Kaal and Vrishabha Lagna Set the Evening Muhurat
Lagna (लग्न) is the zodiac sign rising in the east. During Vrishabha Lagna (वृषभ लग्न), Taurus (वृषभ राशि) rises in the east.
Lakshmi worship during Pradosh on Amavasya follows the Skanda Purana tradition. Jyotish (ज्योतिष), or Hindu astrology, favours Vrishabha Lagna for evening Lakshmi Puja.
Vrishabha is a fixed sign in Jyotish. Its rising period is called Sthir Lagna (स्थिर लग्न). For the listed evening Muhurat, Amavasya, Pradosh Kaal and Vrishabha Lagna must occur together.
In Kochi, Pradosh ends at 8:28 PM on November 8. The Puja Muhurat ends at 8:28 PM, even though Vrishabha Lagna continues until 8:30 PM.
Why Lakshmi Puja Timings Differ by City
Sunset and Lagna times depend on where the city is. Sharing IST does not give every city the same Puja Muhurat.
The listed cities share the same Amavasya start and end times. On November 8, the evening Muhurat starts at 5:00 PM in Guwahati and 6:27 PM in Mumbai.

| Kolkata | November 8, 10:55 PM | November 8, 11:46 PM |

Mahanishita and Simha Lagna (सिंह लग्न) are separate periods. During Simha Lagna, Leo (सिंह राशि) rises in the east. In Mumbai, Mahanishita ends at 12:48 AM on November 9. Simha Lagna begins five minutes later, at 12:53 AM.
Lakshmi Puja Muhurat for Shops and Offices
You can follow the listed evening Lakshmi Puja Muhurat in shops and offices. If a Pandit leads the Puja, confirm the Muhurat before the ceremony.
Chopda Puja (चोपड़ा पूजा) is worship of account books. Gujarati business traditions also use Choghadiya (चौघड़िया) for Chopda Puja. Choghadiya divides the day and night into named periods. In the Ahmedabad table, Shubh (शुभ) is the afternoon Choghadiya period.

Which Muhurat should I follow if my city is not listed?
Check a local Panchang (पंचांग), or Hindu calendar, for that city. Look for the evening Lakshmi Puja entry for 2026. A nearby city or state capital can have different timings.
Why do two Panchangs show different Puja timings?
One calendar may show Pradosh, while another shows Lagna or Choghadiya. Sunrise calculations and the height of the land above sea level can also affect times. Compare the same city, year and type of Muhurat. Follow the local calendar used by your family or Pandit.
What can I do if I miss the evening Muhurat?
Check whether another Sthir Lagna Muhurat is available locally before Amavasya ends. Use the local Panchang to check the date and time. If a Pandit leads your Puja, ask which remaining Muhurat to follow.
Does the whole Puja need to finish within the Muhurat?
No, the whole ceremony does not need to finish within the Muhurat. You can start the Puja before the Muhurat. Perform Lakshmi worship within the chosen period and finish the remaining steps afterwards.
Which city timings should I use when travelling?
Follow the timings for the city where you will perform the Puja. If you travel from Delhi to Mumbai and worship there, use Mumbai timings.
Is the Lakshmi Puja Muhurat also suitable for Kali Puja?
Use the Kali Puja Muhurat for the city where you will worship. Look for a local entry labelled Kali Puja or Shyama Puja (श्यामा पूजा).
